The Rainbow

On a day like this  When the heavens open wide  And rain alights with fanfare  The saga lasts a few hours  Now retreating into a thin drizzle ; I soak my soul And breathe in the sweet fragrance  Of wet earth,  The breeze is fresh,  My spirits too.. I look at the radiant arch  Spread across the sky Like a stack of ribbons  Like a magnificent jewel  Like a child’s dream  This wonderful sight  Spilling hues of hope  Bringing smiles in its wake  Here now , gone in a blink  Only to be back again,  After another torrential downpour  Life is the same, no?  Pleasure and pain  Playing peek-a-boo,  Never to stay forever..  I capture the joy Of this fleeting moment  Knowing too well  The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow  Will never be mine But I can always borrow the colours  To paint my heart.
